Emma Frances - Artist

My work is a direct response to the environment surrounding me. I draw inspiration from the beautiful landscape of Cornwall. The elemental forces of nature and the power of the sea have always profoundly influenced me. I am moved to capture the feelings that surface while immersed in the vistas I call home.

It is particularly, the ever changing spaces between land and sea, the constant flux, erosion and transient spirit of this space, impacted by weather, humanity and time that becomes my source. My work is a response to the world I see, a fleeting capture and moment in time, a unique record of my own experience within it. It is a symbiosis of memory, movement, immersion and consciousness.

Drawing, mark making and colour is fundamental in my work, while intuition and spontaneity in my direct process yields abstraction. My work asks the observer to summon one's own relationship and experience with nature, land, sea and elements, evoking narrative, understanding, shared experience and inquisition of the subject.
